From Italy to Latin America – The Journey of Street Art
Italian missionaries and craftsmen not only brought Christian iconography but also artistic knowledge and techniques. In Mexico, Colombia, and Peru, forms of folk art emerged that strongly resemble European Madonnari—often complemented by local motifs, indigenous symbolism, and colorful flower carpets.
A Living Heritage
Even today, Madonnari from around the world gather—such as in the Italian town of Curtatone (Lombardy)—for the most important international festival of this art form. Street painting continues to live on as a symbol of peace, faith, and creative freedom.
